Homework

 

Homework is recorded on our student portal and parents can also access this using the MyChildAtSchool App. Younger students will also record homework in their planners. 

The frequency and times below are a guide only ā€“ on occasions teachers may set more frequent shorter tasks or longer less frequent tasks with a longer deadline.

Evidence shows that secondary students who complete regular high-quality home learning activities for up to 1-2 hours per day (or slightly more for older students) make on average 5 months more progress. (Education Endowment Foundation)

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

English, Maths, Science
1 piece per week (approx. 30 minutes)

History, Geography, RE, French, German, Mandarin, Computer Science, Art, Music, Drama, Technology
1 piece per fortnight (20-30 minutes) or1 piece per 4 weeks (30-40 minutes)

Deadlines: Minimum of 4 days

Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)

English, Maths
1 piece per week (45-60 minutes)

All other qualification subjects including single Sciences
1 piece per week (30-45 mins)or 1 piece per fortnight (45-60 minutes)

Deadlines: Minimum of 4 days

Further Independent Study

It is recommended by the school that in order to make best progress, students also spend time on independent study in addition to specific home learning tasks.

Suggested further study can include:

  • Allocated time for reading
  • Study via recommended websites
  • Family debates / discussions
  • Regular revision activities
  • Educational family visits
  • Activities to support with time management and organisation

Google Classroom
Materials and resources for current lessons and schemes of work can be found in Google Classroom.  This is a rich resource with the most relevant content for students to refer back to, cathch up on lessons they have missed and revise from.
