Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a nationally recognised programme that offers young people the opportunity to develop confidence, resilience and life skills through a range of enjoyable and challenging activities. It is an accredited programme of personal development designed to support students beyond the classroom.

Who Can Take Part?

· Bronze Award – Open to students in Year 9

· Silver Award – Open to students in Year 10

· Students can begin the Silver Award without having completed Bronze

Cost and Funding

There is a financial commitment to cover the cost of expedition providers.

· A deposit is required via MCAS when signing up. This secures a place on the programme.

· Part of the deposit is used to purchase the DofE Welcome Pack, which includes the DofE Participation Place.

· Any remaining balance can be paid in instalments throughout the year.

· Students eligible for FSM6 (Free School Meals) will receive a school subsidy, reducing the overall cost.

· Thanks to successful fundraising and support from local charities across Nottinghamshire, the school has invested in its own pool of expedition equipment, which can be loaned to students. This further reduces costs.

Why Take Part in DofE?

The DofE Award:

· Enhances CVs, college applications, UCAS forms and job applications

· Allows students to gain credit for activities they already enjoy

· Encourages independence, teamwork and self-confidence

· Offers opportunities to meet new people, try new activities and improve physical fitness

· Provides memorable experiences that are both challenging and rewarding

Above all, the programme is designed to be enjoyable and fun.

What Does the Award Involve?

Students create their own personalised programme with the support of a DofE Leader, choosing one activity in each section:

Physical

Students take part in a sport or fitness activity to improve their physical health. Examples include team sports, dance, gym training, running or alternative activities.

Skills

Students develop a new skill or improve an existing hobby. Examples include learning an instrument, cooking, gardening, photography or other personal interests.

Expedition

Highs, lows, great laughs, amazing memories- you’ll experience it all as you plan, train for and complete an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.
