The OFSTED framework changed from November 2025, and the new report card and grades cannot be compared to the previous ones. This is a useful short video which explains the changes:

New Ofsted report cards and grades: a guide for parent

The main changes are:

  • There is no longer an overall one word judgement.
  • The judgements are now “secure fit” not “best fit”, in other words, you need to evidence all parts of each standard to achieve it. Where we have been graded “expected standard”, the verbal and text feedback demonstrated that we achieved many aspects of the strong standard judgement.
  • The “expected standard” sets a high bar. Of the schools inspected by May 2026, only 17% had been graded strong or exceptional standard for achievement or curriculum and teaching.

We are delighted that our strengths in Personal Development and Wellbeing and Inclusion have been recognised in this report. We are also very proud of the way that our students and their experience at our school are described in the section “What it’s like to be a pupil at this school”. The feedback that OFSTED received from parents, students and staff during the inspection was very positive; 97% of parents said that they would recommend the school.

While we achieved “expected standard” for Achievement, the report acknowledges that the achievement of all students in external exams is significantly above average. You can find more information about our excellent exam results here: Exam Results and Performance | Alderman White School

The new OFSTED framework and report card have a focus on evaluating the work of school leaders. The successes of our school are very much a team effort, and the result of the hard work, commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm of every member of our teaching and support staff.

The inspection process confirmed our own self-evaluation and priorities to further improve the school. The next steps identified in the report are things that we had already identified and are working to improve further.
